With RCS, businesses can send rich media like images, videos, and audio, along with features such as action buttons, delivery tracking, and read receipts. This allows companies to provide a more dynamic, app-like messaging experience directly within the user's default messaging app, without the need for external apps.

RCS is available on Android devices, and Apple has announced on Sept 16th 2024 that RCS is supported in iOS18 . The most common way to access RCS messages is through the Google Messages app. To check if your phone supports RCS, open Google Messages, go to the menu in the top right, select Settings, and then choose Chat Features.
RCS offers greater security compared to traditional SMS. RCS messages are transmitted over the internet and, in some cases, include end-to-end encryption, providing enhanced protection against interception and unauthorised access.
RCS messages can only be sent if both the sender and recipient have RCS enabled and are connected to the internet. If there's no internet connection, or if either party doesn't have RCS enabled, the message will automatically be sent as an SMS or MMS.
